Hello! Can I just tell you about how I'm 100% obsessed with this vase I made in 2019? It's probably an unhealthy level of obsession. But, like, who could blame me? LOOK AT IT.
The brown clay really lends itself to the underwater feel. And the glaze did EXACTLY what I wanted it to do, which almost never happens. The glaze is one I've talked about before, called Spearmint by local pottery wizard @claliston. It is a translucent green glaze that pools blue. On this dark clay body I made sure to give it two good, thick dips to ensure it would show up.
I was honestly stunned when it came out of the kiln. You can actually watch my live reaction on YouTube. The video also includes shots of this thing in the sunshine, in which it literally sparkles. It's amazing.
This is truly one of my favorite pieces ever, and that's saying something because I've been at this for over 10 years now. Is it perfect? Of course not. I'm not super satisfied with how the creatures on the vessel's neck turned out; they are bland and lacking in detail.
The coral makes all my gripes about the creatures irrelevant though. These sea urchins, for example, were a huge pain to make and not all of the spines made it through the process.
While the overall result is stunning, I'm not chomping at the bit to recreate it on new pieces due to the amount of time it takes, and how delicate they are even after both firings.
So, I have been working on creating texture stamps and sprig molds that will make it all much easier. To my husband's confusion, I pulled a branch off our tree randomly yesterday because its texture intrigued me so.
The next set of Sea Life pieces is already in progress at Pioneer Craft House. It is a set of six cups, which I originally intended to be mugs but now I'm wondering if I should make a few of them into small bowls without handles. I probably will end up going that route.
Anyway this one is available on Etsy right now for $90 with free shipping. It honestly breaks my heart a little to even consider letting it go, but I have to give myself motivation to make another one, right? Right.
If you're not already, follow me on Instagram for quality, original pottery content and the occasional dank meme. I'm also making more videos these days, so check out my YouTube channel and the video I made about the Sea Life Series:
Thanks for stopping by and for your support! Have a fantastic day, my friends!
I love cotton yarn! I don't know what it is about cotton that gets me, but I love to use it! Today, I'm working on a set of extra thick hot pads in grape and ice blue Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton. I pick up skeins of Kitchen Cotton from Amazon when they are less than $3 a piece. I guess I just find crochet cotton so useful in my own house that I want everyone else to know about it! I can't even tell you the last time that I bought paper towels or an actual hot pad. With cotton yarn around, who needs 'em? NOT THIS GIRL :D Today's project: This particular pattern is very easy and results in a great textured fabric. Built using four strands of yarn (two of each color), this extra thick hot pad is going to stand up to even the heaviest of heavy hot pots.
The biggest, in fact! When I showed the latest crocodile handbag to a purse expert (a friend from work; she knows her stuff!), she suggested that I take the design to the next level with a shoulder bag. Not one to turn down good advice, I did as I was told. This is the result: Pretty awesome, eh? I'm seriously tempted to keep it! Here's the back: As with all my bags, the scales were constructed separately from the bag and attached to the one-piece bag. This one is seriously hefty: it measures 14.5 inches at the base, and the main compartment is a full 12 inches tall. The strap's inner perimeter measures 26 inches from one end to the other, and it's finished with a reverse single crochet that adds strength & wearability. The flower appliques were the finishing touch. Being that it's so tall, I felt the bag doesn't really need any type of closure. I figure it's going to hold your tablet, phone, wallet, notebook, pens, sk...
Hey! I know I'm five days late. We've been super busy over at Craft and STEM. Our final inspection happened today, and we passed! The shop will officially be open on Tuesday, July 10. Head over to CraftStem.com for all the exciting details! Colt's 7th birthday is this weekend, and we're having a party for him at the shop on Saturday, July 7. It will also function as an open house/sneak peak, because I love to multitask. Please feel free to stop by between 2 and 5 pm for cake, food and a tour! Anyhow. June just flew by, as it does when you're working hard. Here are some highlights: Honey B came home! Grandmommy visited for a few days. She is so helpful around the shop! Not a fan of the ponytail. Lots of trips to the pool. And to the Ikea. The kids and I surprised my dad for Father's Day weekend (also his birthday) by showing up in Twin Falls without warning. It was fabulous! I just love hanging out with my niblings. Max <...
